Saints quarterback Drew Brees. Football earned him a 2000 National Football Foundation postgraduate scholarship. College football star to national powerhouse.

San Diego Chargers selected him in the 2001 NFL Draft, launching his career. He joined the New Orleans Saints after two tragic injuries. 

Drew Christopher Brees was born in Austin, Texas, on January 15, 1979, to Eugene Wilson and Meena Ruth. His father was a trial lawyer and his mother a well-known attorney. 

After his parents divorced at seven, they took turns raising him. Reid, his younger brother, also suffered a failed marriage.

He was naturally athletic. His father played basketball in high school, and his mother played all-state sports. Texas Longhorns quarterback Marty Akins was his maternal uncle.

San Diego Chargers drafted him in 2001. He debuted against Kansas City Chiefs on 4 November 2001.

His 2004 team went 12-4 in 15 games. The team won the "AFC West" tournament and was an obvious choice for the "2004 Pro Bowl" after a decade.

On March 14, 2006, Brees signed a six-year, $60 million contract with the "New Orleans Saints" after the "San Diego Chargers" failed to increase his pay.
